Henry Fersko-Weiss, LCSW, is executive director of the International End-of-Life Doula Association. In 2003, Henry created the very first End-of-Life Doula Program in the US at a hospice in New York City and has built many other programs based on his model. Caring for the dying

This book is a wealth of wonderful and extremely endearing Information on a subject people are hesitant to read about. I have seen doulas in action ..up close and personal. This is the perfect book to aid in making a dying person as comfortable as possible during transition. I highly recommend this wonderful book!

How they would like to spend their days and what their environment should ...

I only wish that I read this book before my father passed away three years ago from colon cancer. All those feelings of taking care of someone who is dying and their last moments. A home health aide provides for his physical need, but an end of life doula provides for mind, body and spirit. How they would like to spend their days and what their environment should look like whether it is in a hospital or at home. This would have been a relief for my mom and myself, but my father as well. Especially making a legacy scroll or looking through old scrapbooks up in the attic putting names to faces would have been wonderful. As an art/recreational therapist I had made a shadowbox of my dad's medals from WWII and was given before he got sick, it was a special gift for him. All his stories and love reside in me now. And now I am volunteering as an end of life doula. To give peace to patients and caregivers
