Great REBT book

This is a good book covering the basics of Rational Emotive Behaviour Theory. Its a proven method of learning to behave and react in a more rational manner.

The ABC approach is very helpful.

This book doesn't talk about addiction but it does talk about many other common problems like Anxiety, depression and anger.

If you want to understand yourself and change destructive behaviour this is a clear systematic and practical way to do so.

If you buy one self-help book, this should be it

If you are anxious and/or depressed, read and re-read (and re-read again) this book. Works best in conjunction with The Feeling Good Handbook by David Burns. Froggatt systematically lays out how most of what is ailing you (guilt, depression, anger, lack of assertiveness, perfectionism, etc.) are all branches of the same tree. They all have their roots in what he calls self-image anxiety (often mistakenly referred to as low self-esteem).

He also points out how it's not "cognitive distortions" that make you feel bad, but instead your "evaluations" of those distortions. For example, you may be worried that someone will get mad at you. That could be "distorted," in that they're unlikely to actually get mad at you. But there's always a chance that they will, in fact, get mad. Your fears may come true. So the way to really feel better is to realize that, even if they get mad, it will not be a catastrophe (check out his very helpful catastrophe scale).

A life-changing book, but it does require several readings.

Not a pop psychology book…jam packed with concepts and examples for managing emotions... should be taught in every classroom and home, from toddlerhood through adulthood, and given to every new parent. The world would be a more peaceful place if the concepts for managing emotions were common knowledge.

I found Warlord an interesting and mystifying read with twists and turns that caught me off guard; just when I figured I knew what was going to happen next - surprise. Having read Linda Chapman's previous books (Avatara and Intimate Shadows) the adventures of Teo, the Warlord, are becoming addictive. I'm waiting for the next installment to answer more questions about who he is, where he came from and what is the mysterious race he seems so concerned about? The book is an excellent read.

not always easy when they are isolated without secondary characters

I have always admired the writing of Shelli Stevens. She has many series and her topics and settings are varied and entertaining. In Take Me in Tahoe, she has taken an old premise, stranded strangers, and made it seem fresh and new. I thought the story was well crafted, the pacing even and smooth, and the passion factor quite high. I appreciated most the strength of her character profiles. She kept the characters actions and reactions interesting and entertainin, not always easy when they are isolated without secondary characters. I thought Take Me in Tahoe was an enjoyable, fun read and I'm still a fan.

Chase thinks she is a thief because of her Goth like appearance, but still finds the stranded woman sexy ...

Nikki agrees to leave her townhouse and stay at her roommate’s boyfriend’s cabin in Tahoe so that they can be alone. When she gets there, she is grabbed by a wall of muscle who thinks she is breaking in. Chase thinks she is a thief because of her Goth like appearance, but still finds the stranded woman sexy as sin. He, also, thinks she is one of his brother’s girlfriends and doesn’t put the moves on her because of that. After finding out that Justin sent her there, Chase offers her the bed and she thinks she will leave in the morning. But, the snow strands the pair and they decide to pass the time with each other after Chase learns that she is not one of his brother’s conquests.

This was a short, sexy, steamy, story that I read very quickly. I liked Nikki’s quirky attitude and sarcastic personality. Chase is a firefighters, aka an ordinary guy, while Nikki likes to push the envelope and go against the norm. Together, they creates a combustible pair that passes the time in the cabin in so many fun ways. While these two would not have sought each other out in the “real world”, the fact that they were stranded made for a good tale and fun times.

About the Author
Ricky W. Griffin is Distinguished Professor of Management and the Blocker Chair in Business in Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. After receiving his PhD from the University of Houston in 1978, Dr. Griffin joined the faculty at the University of Missouri for three years before moving to Texas A&M in 1981. His research on task design and dysfunctional work behavior has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, the Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, the Journal of Management, and other outlets. He also served as Editor of the Journal of Management. Ricky has been Program Chair and Division Chair of the Organizational Behavior Division and Program Chair of the Research Methods Division of the Academy, Program Chair and President of the Southwest Academy of Management, and a member of the Board of the Southern Management Association. He is a fellow of both the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association. Dr. Griffin has taught organizational behavior, human resource management, international management, and research methods at all levels and has won several teaching awards. He is a frequent speaker to executive audiences and is the author of several widely used textbooks. Dr. Griffin was Director of the Center for Human Resource Management at Texas A&M and just returned to the faculty at Mays after 11 years of full-time appointments as Management Department Head, Executive Associate Dean, and Interim Dean. His current research interests include workplace culture, managerial skills development, and decision making during times of crisis.

David D. Van Fleet is a professor Management in the Morrison School of Agribusiness and Resource Management at Arizona State University. He received his Ph.D. in economics and management from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. He has served as editor of the Journal of Management and the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management as well as an officer in the Southwest Regional Division of the Academy of Management, the Southern Management Association, and the Management History Division of the Academy of Management. Dr. Van Fleet taught at the University of Tennessee, the University of Akron, and Texas A&M University before moving to Arizona State in 1989. His research interests include workplace violence, management history, and leadership. A well respected author, Dr. Van Fleet has written many successful books, including THE VIOLENCE VOLCANO, WORKPLACE SURVIVAL, CONTEMPORARY MANAGEMENT, BEHAVIOR IN ORGANIZATIONS, and ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR: A MANAGERIAL VIEWPOINT.
