The Glenn Martin music book "Well-Tempered Instrumentalist, A Guide to Tonal and Aural Mastery" Is a super book. Well written, nicely packaged, highly informational and easy to understand. The printing is first class and very clear with pages easy to turn and stay flat when turned. The time spent with this interesting book will help any musician greatly improve his abilities in chord studies, memorization of the various chords and chord structures. This book is great for all ages from young students starting out, to an advanced musician. It is large enough yet compact enough to carry in a small brief case or many various instrument cases. All word written, notations, etudes, scales, and various songs for study are easy on the eyes while expanding your musical knowledge. Excellent book Mr. Martin, congratulations on the efficient layout of your study book which I feel deserves 5 star quality.

Yo Jazz Peeps. Glenn has done a great job of organizing basic the elements of music needed to improvise jazz . He has also provided helpful steps that when followed, develop you ability in finding and playing licks or melody. A YouTube reference will soon be available to reinforce this important learning tool/

The new book by Glenn Martin, "The Well-Tempered Instrumentalist - A Guide to Tonal and Aural Mastery", is a fresh perspective on ear-training.
For decades, if not centuries, directors, conductors, and music educators have taught the concept of, "If you can SING it, you can PLAY it". I'm quite sure that everyone reading this review would agree with that approach. However, that concept directly applies to sight-singing notes that have already written on the page of music.
Mr. Martin's book is not teaching sight-singing. He has constructed a methodical approach which will not only improve your ear, but will give you the methods and the tools necessary to take what you hear in your head, and immediately play it through your instrument. An alternative title for this book could have been, "How To Sing Through Your Instrument". This book is based on being able to Hear It, Internalize It, and Play It.
The is the first book that I have ever read that actually teaches the student how to "hear". This is no simple undertaking. Through the study and practice of intervals, circle of 4ths and 5ths, etudes, single-note lines, and pre-existing melodies, "The Well-Tempered Instrumentalist" teaches the musical mind to become one with the instrument. Again…Hear It, Internalize It, and Play It.
This book will absolutely be a benefit to any music teacher's library. However, it is written so that a student of any age could purchase the book, and easily teach him/herself on their own. This is a must for any college music library.
